What Really Happened in Ecuador?

Here are a number of articles from different parts of the world about what recently occurred in Ecuador.  Once again, read and think critically as you look them over. You will quickly notice the contrasting views coming from all over the world.  Was it a 'coup'? Was it just policemen angry over their benefits? Could the President have staged it to save his presidency? These are all questions that arise in the following articles.

But it seems to me they are asking the wrong questions. Is it really possible that the police force of a country would attack their democratically elected president because of their lack of bonuses and benefits? If true, I would think police around the world and in the U.S. would have already tried. It seems pretty simple. Either pay us or we won't protect the streets. Oh, and we will probably attack you and take you hostage.

And how can we avoid the recent history of Latin America and the, oh so, evident influence of the United States of America.  Has Ecuador continued to cooperate with the US? Or is this a sign they are becoming more independent from the giant in the north. The big angry giant who demands natural resources (oil) and leaves countries in ruins (extreme debt). These are the issues we should be looking at.
