Morsi backers tell USA: Call it a 'coup'





(USA Today) More than two weeks after Egypt's military unseated the country's first freely elected president, Washington refused to call the power grab a military coup, sparking criticism from supporters of Mohammed Morsi who believe they were robbed of their democratic right after voting for the now-ousted leader.

"All people here are upset with America," said Abdel Rahman, a computer engineer, at a pro-Morsi sit-in in the capital. "Where is democracy?"

Mystery surrounds the whereabouts of Morsi, who hasn't been heard from for sixteen days following his ouster. He is thought to be in detention.

On July 3, backed by widespread support, Gen. Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi forced Morsi out, suspended the country's constitution and ushered in a transition plan that dissolved the legislature and set the groundwork for fresh elections. Interim president Adly Mansour was swiftly sworn in and a new cabinet was formed.
