(Euronews) The Japan Coast Guard says the new land mass created by a volcanic eruption off Japan's Pacific Coast might expand the country's exclusive economic zone.
The coast guard confirmed the land mass emerged on November 20th near Nishinoshima Island, about 1,000 kilometers south of Tokyo.
The land mass connected with Nishinoshima in late December. The coast guard says this may widen Japan's exclusive economic zone westward.
